Congratulations to Phi Alpha Theta seniors Devyn Halsted, Sarah Johnson, Ally Laubscher, Lisa Lujano, Fernando Parra, Veneta Ranger, and Chris Richman on their graduation! The chapter will miss you next year!
Phi Alpha Theta recently visited the Arizona Historical Society, where the archivists and conservators were kind enough to give us a “behind the scenes” tour of the collections. Students got the opportunity to view 19th century fashions, original letters from Teddy and Eleanor Roosevelt, and 17th century Spanish swords and crossbows! We also learned about the wealth of historical resources that the society has to offer, including collections of Sanborn maps, early Arizona photographs, and original newspapers!
Phi Alpha Theta members recently made a visit to the Postal History Foundation’s Slusser Memorial Library to view the Slusser Civil War collections. Students were able to view patriotic postal covers (envelopes) printed during the 1860s, hold a Union officer’s sword and a Confederate pike, and gain valuable experience in handling historical collections and material culture artifacts.
Interested in historical and archival field work? Attend our meetings and follow us on social media for news of upcoming events!
Thanks to the staff of the Postal History Foundation for hosting us!
